Lesson 17: Running (Direction, Action, and Rhythm)

lesson image

Action is not learned from the object that expresses the action, but from pictures and drawings. There are five general groups of actions. They are the running group, the walking group, the standing group, the sitting group, and the reclining group. This year we will first learn to express action through copying, and then apply what is learned to draw from the imagination.

Show children the drawings of the running figures. First, instructors should demonstrate the exercise to children by sketching a figure. Then, direct children to copy the figure until they have perfected it. Repeat the process for each figure.
